Emma Edwards Counselling

I offer counselling services both in-person at a central Wimbledon location and online. Additionally, I provide the option of walk-and-talk therapy, set in the natural surroundings of local parks such as Cannizaro Park or Wimbledon Park. Prior to scheduling your initial session, I arrange a complimentary 30-minute telephone call or Zoom session. This allows you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and determine whether I am the right therapist for you.

During our first face-to-face session, I take the time to understand you better and explore your goals moving forward. The number of sessions is entirely up to you and is regularly reviewed to ensure you are receiving the support you need.

Welcome

I'm Emma, a qualified integrative counsellor and a registered member of the BACP. I offer psychotherapy sessions in person at my Wimbledon office, or across the UK by telephone or online. I recognise that numerous challenges lead individuals to seek counselling such as depression, anxiety, low mood, coping with loss, navigating change, or feeling overwhelmed. In my work with clients, my primary focus is on providing a secure, empathic, and supportive space where you can feel heard and validated.

I understand the significance of establishing a trusting therapeutic relationship, allowing you the freedom to comfortably explore any issues or difficulties you may be facing. Working at your pace, I aim to support you in understanding yourself better, utilizing your strengths and tools to find resolutions, and ultimately, living a more fulfilling life.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling and psychotherapy are therapeutic approaches aimed at helping individuals navigate emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges. While often used interchangeably, there are subtle differences between them.

Counselling:
Counselling is often a, goal-oriented form of therapy that focuses on specific issues, providing practical solutions. It addresses immediate problems, improves coping skills, and enhances overall well-being. Utilizing active listening, empathy, and support, counsellors assist clients in gaining perspective and finding ways to resolve their challenges.

Psychotherapy:

Psychotherapy is a broader, more in-depth form of therapy that explores the underlying causes of emotional and behavioral issues. It involves talking and delving into thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to promote self-awareness and foster long-term positive changes. Unlike counselling, psychotherapy may last for an extended period and can address deeper-rooted issues such as past trauma or chronic mental health conditions. It's important to note that the effectiveness of counselling or psychotherapy depends on the individual's willingness to engage, the quality of the therapeutic relationship, and the therapist's expertise.
